BOMA International applauds proposed national energy policy

The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International issued support for Senator Frank Murkowski (R-Alaska), chair of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, for introducing the National Energy Security Policy Act of 2001 on February 26, 2001.

The proposed bill would protect the country’s energy security and cut dependency on foreign oil sources to 50 percent by 2010. Some of the bill’s proposed solutions include: enhancing the use of renewable energy resources, conserving energy resources, improving energy efficiencies, increasing domestic energy supplies, improving environmental quality by reducing emissions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases and mitigating the effect of increases in energy prices on the consumer.

Last month, BOMA International called on Congress and the Bush administration to adopt a national energy policy that would benefit America’s commercial building tenants. BOMA International’s newly adopted energy policy encourages Congress to enact a national energy policy that ensures all consumers have access to adequate supplies of reasonably priced energy by addressing the energy challenge from both demand and supply perspectives.
