March 19, 2003—The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International has created a new audio seminar to help those involved in office building security and emergency preparedness assess the risks and take appropriate actions under the government’s color-coded terrorism alert system.
To alert the public to the risk of terrorist attacks, the U.S. government implemented the color-coded Homeland Security Advisory System. Each threat level in the color-coded alert system represents different challenges to building security and preparedness. “Code Orange. Code Red. War: Preparing for the New Security Challenges,” a two-hour audio seminar at 2 p.m. (EST) on Wednesday, March 26, will help participants understand the risks and implement best practices in security and emergency preparedness.
Seminar participants will learn strategies for business continuity planning, best practices in security and emergency preparedness for buildings of every size, steps that commercial real estate firms are taking to prepare their staffs and tenants, and tips for communicating with tenants and managing tenant fears. In addition, attendees will receive an up-to-date security briefing on the latest threats.
Panelists include:
- William Jenkins, National Realty Services Advisor, General Services Administration, Washington, DC
- Tom Harrington, RPA, General Manager, Winthrop Management, Pittsburgh, PA
- Alton Penz, Ph.D., President and CEO, The Gimbal Group, Arlington, VA
- Henry Chamberlain, Executive Vice President, BOMA International, Washington, DC (moderator)
The two-hour seminar is delivered via telephone, enabling busy executives to learn the best practices in office building security and emergency preparedness without even leaving the office. Moreover, managers can use their office speakerphones to allow groups of executives to participate for the price of a single registration.
The seminar is designed for building and property owners and managers, asset managers, facility and corporate facility managers, leasing agents, engineers, architects, developers, corporate counsels, and vendors and suppliers of the commercial real estate industry.
The seminar costs $175 for BOMA members and $225 for non-members. For more information, call the BOMA International Education Hot Line at 202/326-6331, or register for the seminar online.
