July 2, 2008—Bentley Prince Street, a leading manufacturer of stylish floorcoverings for nearly three decades, has launched Functional Expression, a collection of five carpet patterns that work together to provide an aesthetic that is both inventive and practical. All five styles Avant Gardia, Euro Modern, Historical Revival, Industrial Society and Structural Obsession are available in broadloom, 18 X 18 carpet tile and 36 X 36 carpet tile.
Applying an architectural theme to textiles is the point of inspiration for Functional Expression. Functionalism was a doctrine developed in the United States and Europe out of the concept that form follows function. This elegant aesthetic was a result of new building techniques fitting perfectly with rectilinear forms and open interior spaces of the International style, says the company.
The Functional Expression Collection plays on this concept, connecting the vision of purpose with the physical space. Providing a platform for utilitarian structures where the interior program dictates the outward form, Functional Expression articulates volume rather than mass, and balance rather than preconceived symmetry. Seen in beautiful floral form or shading of rectilinear shape, the five styles of Functional Expression convey the influence of International style in modernism.
Available in 15 colorways, the Functional Expression Collection features the latest introductions of the expanded Antron Lumena solution dyed nylon color line. The nuance of color illustrated through a more sophisticated palette allows all styles in the Collection to reach across multiple applications while providing an elegant choice for any inventive interior.
All five patterns in the Functional Expression Collection are manufactured with varying levels of recycled content in the yarn. Functional Expression also is installed standard with High PerformancePC backing, a latex formulation that recovers mineral residual from the paper recycling industry in an environmentally friendly fashion, resulting in a minimum average 10 percent post-consumer recycled content by total product weight.
