February 2, 2004—Brayton International, a Steelcase, Inc. company and manufacturer of high end contract office seating, was recently recognized with the American Power Conversion’s Secure Network-Critical Physical Infrastructure (NCPI) award.
This newly created award recognizes companies that are determined to reduce costs and improve the overall reliability of their IT systems and networks by installing APC’s InfraStruXure architecture. Brayton International joins a list of nine companies nationwide that have received the Secure NCPI award.
Brayton’s new 250,000 state-of-the-art facility provided an excellent opportunity to integrate technology with the architecture and furniture found in its new corporate home. According the Markus Hill, Brayton’s director of technology and information services, the company wanted to provide employees with a flexible, simple, and comfortable work environment.
With the new infrastructure powering the phones, it was important that Hill protect Brayton from possible risk with the loss of power.
“My goal was to find a watertight solution that would protect our communications infrastructure by guaranteeing uninterrupted power,” Hill said. “Keeping the system up and running is one of my many responsibilities. With InfraStruXure, I know that no matter what happens, power flow will not be interrupted. I know InfraStruXure is running behind the scenes, protecting my equipment, my company, and allowing us to communicate with our customers. This lets me focus my energy on other projects that add value to Brayton.”
According to APC, when an increasing amount of equipment is housed per square foot, the “network-critical physical infrastructure,” or NCPI, that supports the data center must not only power gear, but also effectively cool and manage it. APC’s InfraStruXure addresses this need with modular, pre-engineered building blocks that integrate power, cooling and management components in a flexible, easy-to-use and service package.
