January 26, 2005—Brayton International has been awarded two GOOD DESIGN awards from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in Chicago. Brayton’s Calm Table and Ripple Bench were recognized. Hundreds of applications were received from 30 countries. The GOOD DESIGN jury determines their decisions based on aesthetic criteria which measures innovation, form, materials, construction, concept, function, and utility.
Founded in 1950, the GOOD DESIGN award publicly acknowledges the world’s most prestigious industrial design firms and manufacturers. It is the world’s oldest and most celebrated awards program. Brayton’s Calm Table and Ripple Bench were among the 150 products that were selected this year.
Brayton’s Calm Table, designed by Pamela Light, FIIDA, features a minimalist design using the finest materials and is environmentally friendly with its recycled steel and powder coat finishes. Its unique stainless steel cabling detail responds to contemporary and transitional interiors. Calm occasional tables also received a Best of NeoCon Gold Award in June 2004.
Brayton’s Ripple Bench, designed by Laurinda Spear, FAIA, creates a sculptural and playful response to waiting postures. Ripple’s undulating design can anchor a lobby area, airport space, or provide a safe, soft spot for children in healthcare waiting areas. As an architectural form, the user has the option to assume different seated positions on the undulating ripple form.
