Braytonspaces bring newest moisture barrier to healthcare furniture

October 1, 2003—Braytonspaces by Brayton International, a Steelcase Company, has brought the newest moisture barrier technology, GORE Seating Protection, to the healthcare furniture industry. This breathable moisture barrier technology from the inventors of GORE-TEX products was introduced at the Symposium on Healthcare Design in Boston, Massachusetts, September 17 – 20, 2003.

Brayton says that the breathable technology provides comfort for the user, while at the same time, the moisture barrier provides protection for the cushion. When substances enter the foam of a chair, there is a potential for mold, mildew, or bacteria to grow, even though from the surface it appears that the stain has been removed. GORE Seating Protection prevents stains and other substances from penetrating upholstery fabrics and reaching the foam, claims Brayton.

GORE Seating Protection, which features anti-microbial and soil/stain-resistant topical treatments to extend the life of the fabric’s surface, is available on practically any upholstery textile, giving healthcare design professionals more choices, explains Brayton. The new technology also leaves the fabrics softer than ever before, with a workable hand and excellent upholsterability, according to the company.
