September 27, 2002—BRE, a British-based building research consulting company, has published a new guide on planning sustainability into new developments, entitled, A sustainability checklist for developments. The guide enables developers, planning authorities and their advisors to specify/assess the sustainability attributes of their developments
The checklist considers the environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainability under the following eight broad headings:
- Land use, urban form and design;
- Transport;
- Energy;
- Impact of individual buildings;
- Natural resources;
- Ecology;
- Community issues;
- Business issues.
