November 29, 2004—The British Council for Offices (BCO) has launched an Office Fit-out Guide to help the industry deliver well-planned, attractive, and productive workplaces. This new, industry-led “best practices” guide was funded in part by the UK’s Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and meets several of the DTI’s key policy aims for Construction Research and Innovation.
The Office Fit-out Guide is a practical document for daily use. It will give clients who commission fit-outs a better understanding of the processes involved, enabling them to make more informed choices about the style and design of the office workplace they really need before a project is started.
The guide provides a detailed briefing on the requirements for a fit-out project by identifying those questions that clients should be asking themselves and their project team before the project is commenced and during the life of the project. It provides a practical series of management checklists that identify key decisions that have to be recognized for a typical fit-out cycle.
According to the guide, a good fit-out is one that minimizes business disruption; balances businesses’ current and future needs; revitalizes the business by harnessing change and adopting improved working practices; and creates a good workplace working environment; all at an affordable price. Producers add that the elements of a successful fit-out project include fitness-for-purpose; timely completion that is free of defects; appropriate overall build and aesthetic quality; occupant satisfaction; and client delight.
To order by phone (using Mastercard or Visa) contact the BCO at 020 7283 4588. The guide costs 30 (excluding postage and shipping) for members and 50 for non-members.
