British Government announces funding for 14 new solar energy projects across UK

June 27, 2005—UK Energy Minister Malcolm Wicks recently announced that 14 new solar photovoltaic (PV) energy projects across the UK, including those at two transport museums, will receive 1.35 million in funding. This brings the total amount awarded to medium- and large-scale projects since the government established its program in 2002 to 18.8 million. Upon completion, the 180 projects granted funding will generate 5815 kWp of electricity.

Part of the government’s aim to see the UK generating 10 percent of electricity from renewable resources by 2010, the solar PV grant program is funded by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and managed by the Energy Saving Trust (EST). For more information about PV, the grant recipients, or obtaining a DTI-funded grant, visit the EST.
