BSIA warns of incompatibility between broadband and monitored alarms

June 29, 2005 — The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) has warned of the potential incompatibility between ADSL broadband and monitored intruder alarms when fitted in the same facility, since digital and analogue signals can be corrupted or blocked when they overlap on the same cable.

The BSIA says that fitting a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) micro-filter can solve the problem without the need for splitters or an additional phone line. Customers are advised to contact their alarm company if they wish to install broadband subsequent to the installation of a monitored alarm.
