October 25, 2005—A new nonprofit association, The Building Envelope Institute (BEI), has been created to serve the building envelope industry.
The building envelope includes everything that separates the interior of a building from the outdoor environment, including the windows, walls, foundation, basement slab, ceiling, roof and insulation.
BEI was formed by a core group of building envelope professionals who realized a need for an association to serve the common interests of the entire building envelope community, according to BEI founders. The associations mission is to serve the common interests of individuals involved in issues related to the performance of building envelope systems.
Among other things, the Institute plans to become the leading international resource for educational opportunities for those involved in evaluation, design, and construction of building envelope systems; to promote research to advance the industrys knowledge of building envelope technology; to provide improved opportunities to network with other building envelope professionals; and to provide an international forum for discussion of issues related to building envelope technology.
