BuildingGreens new software versions provide environmental information for designers and managers

November 7, 2001—BuildingGreen, Inc., publisher of Environmental Building News and the GreenSpec Product Directory, has released new versions of its CD-ROM based EBN Archives and Green Building Advisor software. Version 5.0 of the EBN Archives provides an archive of all issues of the monthly newsletter Environmental Building News: from the very first in 1992 through the end of 2000 on a single CD-ROM. A total of 67 issues and 1,200 pages of this newsletter on environmentally responsible design and construction are included on the CD.

A new feature with v. 5.0 of the EBN Archives is the ability to link to an online database of current manufacturer contact information for more than 450 products that have been reviewed or described in EBN. The disc also includes EBNs updated bibliography of the best information resources on green building, and one-click links to more than three dozen quick-reference checklists from the pages of EBN, including an overview checklist on environmentally responsible design and construction. EBN Archives is compatible with Windows and Apple Macintosh operating systems. The price is $149 ($95 for EBN subscribers); upgrades from prior editions are $79 ($37 for subscribers.)

Version 1.1 of the Green Building Advisor (GBA), an interactive software tool that helps users identify strategies for improving the environmental performance of building projects has also been released. Jointly produced by BuildingGreen and Design Harmony, Inc. To use the tool for greening a specific building project, information about the project is entered using simple pull-down menustaking literally just a few minutes. Then, based on those inputs, GBA generates a list of green building strategies that are likely to be relevant to the project. The price for GBA is $179 ($129 for EBN subscribers); upgrades from version 1.0 cost $49 ($39 for subscribers). Both the EBN Archives and Green Building Advisor CDs can be ordered from BuildingGreen by calling 800/861-0954.
