The Business Roundtable (BRT) has released a report offering the Bush Administration and Congress thirty-eight solutions to pressing concerns about global climate change. The report—”Unleashing Innovation: The Right Approach to Global Climate Change”—identifies opportunities in existing regulatory, tax, and trade policies to drive more rapid innovation and implementation of new technologies to address climate change concerns. The report is based on a recent survey of BRT member companies, which span virtually every industry sector.
Some of the reports solutions include:
- Finding common ground between business, governmental, and environmental interests on solutions to concerns about climate change and other environmental, energy, and economic challenges.
- Streamlining permitting, compliance, and enforcement (e.g. New Source review, Clean Air Act).
- Identifying and possibly eliminating tax policies that penalize transfers of energy-efficient technologies.
- Making the climate-related technology R&D tax credit permanent.
- Reducing the numerous tariff and non-tariff barriers to the export of energy-efficient US technologies to developing nations.
