September 16, 2002—The California Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board has unanimously adopted a new regulation (8 C.C.R. 3362(g)) to the state’s General Industry Safety Orders (Title 8, Chapter 4, Subchapter 7, Article 9, Section 3362), which sets general sanitation requirements for mold. The new regulation became effective on September 4, 2002.
The regulation requires the interior, exterior, and environments of buildings to be sufficiently cleaned and maintained so as to avoid conditions that may foster “harmful exposure.” It also states that water intrusion, leakage, and accumulation “shall be corrected because of the potential for these conditions to cause the growth of mold.”
