The Association of California Water Agencies-Utility Service Agency (ACWA-USA), whose 438 public agency members are responsible for about 90 percent of the water delivered in California, has reached agreements with two companies to assist members’ purchase of devices to generate their own power during the energy crisis. The companies—Solar Depot and Harza Energy—will offer discounts to water agencies throughout the state on the purchase of solar electric systems and natural-gas-fueled microturbine electricity generators. The size of the discount depends on how many units are collectively purchased by association members. This agreement could supply as many as 140 participating water agencies with alternative power sources amid the current California energy crisis. For more information, visit the ACWA-USA Web site.
