CARE names nylon board manufacturer Recycler of the Year

May 10, 2004—Nylon Board Manufacturing of Medford, MN, the developer of Ny-Board, a composite sheeting material which uses recycled nylon from post-consumer carpet, was honored last evening as Recycler of the Year at the Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) Second Annual Conference.

Ny-Board was developed as a product to be superior to wood and plastic products that can rot, deteriorate, and cause mold problems. It was first developed as a replacement product for materials that were not sufficient and durable by founder Mark Pike, who began a construction company in 1984 that specialized in remodeling and repair.

The goal was to find a product that was waterproof, insect proof, and would not rot. And since carpet represents 3% of all waste entering landfills, the solution was perfect: a nylon board made out of 100% recycled nylon derived from post-consumer carpet.

All of Nylon Board Manufacturing’s products can be painted, cut with standard saws, screwed, nailed, and glued. They last virtually forever, and all waste can be reused to make new nylon boards.

During the last 3 years over 5 million pounds of old carpet has been kept out of landfills. This diversion level will grow as market demand for the product increases.
