May 31, 2006—Carillion’s Sovereign Hospital Services has secured a 330 million soft FM contract as part of the redevelopment of St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London and the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. The redevelopment is reportedly Britain’s biggest hospital program under the UK Government’s Private Finance Initiative (PFI).
The contract, which will begin in July 2006, includes the provision of patient and non-patient catering, cleaning, housekeeping, laundry, portering, receipt and distribution of goods, reception, security, telecommunications, and transport. It is valued at 30 million per year for an initial term of 11 years of the 42-year concession period.
Preliminary work has already begun and the first phase of construction is scheduled to be completed in 2010, with all construction finished in 2016. The hospitals will remain in operation during the construction period.
