Habitat is a new floorcovering by Collins & Aikman Floorcoverings, Inc., made with a high percentage of reclaimed 6,6 nylon that meets performance and esthetic needs of the commercial market, says the carpet producer noted for its development of recycled content carpet.
A solution-dyed, 6,6 nylon fiber system with reclaimed content ranging from 82 to 98 percent and combined with C&A’s 100 percent recycled-content ER3®backing renders Habitat the greenest, high-performance carpet tile currently available, claims C&A.
“RepeatTM Habitat’s fiber system, is composed of reclaimed-content, solution-dyed nylon 6,6 fiber with a minimum of 82 percent reclaimed content. Historically, such a high percentage would dramatically limit the color availability, says Nat Harrison, C&A’s director of product design and development. “Despite the fibers’ high percentage of reclaimed content, Habitat features a very handsome and versatile group of colors with hues ranging from light to dark. With eight color combinations based on 12 building blocks, Habitat offers a much wider range of colorways than previously available in this reclaimed nylon.”
The Repeat was named to signify that the fiber is manufactured from relcaimed nylon, according to Lee Schilling, senior vice president at C&A. The reclaimed content consists of waste generated from various fiber production processes such as process deviations, product changes and color transitions as well as other industry sources. Shilling adds that a special equipment and processing technology is employed to produce the fiber from the reclaimed nylon waste.
