September 3, 2008—CDW Healthcare, provider of technology products and services to healthcare organizations, recently announced that United Regional Health Care System of Wichita Falls, Texas, has launched an electronic care documentation initiative with a customized cart solution configured and deployed by CDW Healthcare. The implementation marks the first in a series of ongoing initiatives to enhance patient care, reduce medication errors, and transform the system’s clinical documentation into a completely paperless process, notes the company.
United Regional is a 565-bed acute-care facility and the only full-service health care system in the region. CDW Healthcare technology specialists collaborated with the healthcare system’s IT department and several clinicians to understand their requirements. The cart solution supports a variety of ongoing initiatives, such as bedside ED patient admission, care documentation via an electronic medical record, and a positive patient identification system intended to reduce medical errors.
The documentation carts are equipped with laptops configured for wireless use, tablet PCs, and washable keyboards and mice. Medication carts were also deployed, with modular, passcode-secured storage drawers as well as specialized handheld scanners to enable proper medication administration.
