May 20, 2002—Contour Design has just published an extensive study of its RollerMouse Station conducted in a one thousand-seat call center. The study took place at a major US pharmaceutical company. In summary, the study reveals that the Contour RollerMouse Station considerably reduces reported operator discomfort and pain by 47 percent.
“The study concludes that centrally located cursor control significantly reduces pain and eliminates the risks of Repetitive Stress Injuries associated with reaching for a mouse,” said James Golden, Certified Associate Ergonomist and Director of the Study. “These test results corroborate the evaluations of other companies such as Intel Corporation, Allstate Insurance, US West, and Aventis: the RollerMouse is a proven solution that is cost-effective to implement within any environment.”
According to Contour Design the company’s RollerMouse Station is an innovative alternative to a traditional computer mouse. It is placed beneath the user’s current keyboard, and conveniently positions cursor and mouse button control just below the spacebar. Cursor movement follows the rolling and sliding action of the Rollerbar, and integrated optical technology ensures accuracy.
Instead of lifting hands from the keyboard to grip a mouse, the Rollerbar’s fluid motion responds to minimal pressure from fingertips or thumbs by either left- or right-handed operators. Operators can push the Rollerbar to “click,” and the RollerMouse provides three additional buttons and a clickable scroll-wheel, all of which are programmable. As a result, computer operators’ hands stay in the optimal work zone for comfort and safety. The RollerMouse is priced at $189.95.
