Chevron Energy Solutions awarded energy management contracts for military bases

January 30, 2004—ChevronTexaco Corp. recently announced the US Department of Defense and the US Department of Energy have awarded Chevron Energy Solutions multiple performance-based contracts to engineer and install facility improvements at three military bases. The improvements are guaranteed to save US taxpayers at least $151 million and are expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 1.5 million tons annually, increase systems reliability, and enhance living and working conditions for military service members, civilian employees, and their families.

Under the contracts, valued at $96 million, Chevron Energy Solutions will implement energy and information management improvements at bases in California, Georgia, and New Jersey. The improvement will include:

  • Installing high-efficiency distributed energy systems;
  • Applying Web-based control systems to support operations and maintenance;
  • Optimizing compressed air systems and process steam and hot water systems;
  • Installing infrared heating systems and high-efficiency lighting systems;
  • Improving climate control through HVAC and building insulation improvements;
  • Harnessing geothermal resources to provide renewable energy; and
  • Incorporating sustainable design techniques to minimize waste and streamline maintenance and operations.
