Chicago magazine named USG Corporation one of the 25 Best Places to Work in Chicago and suburbs. “The booming economy has created a tight labor market, and businesses are going to great lengths to keep their employees happy,” said Chicago Editor Richard Babcock. “Athough a handful of Chicago companies consistently make the national lists of best places to work, we felt it was time for a local focus. Our research shows that these companies are the cream of the crop.”
Chicago magazine editors conducted elaborate and extensive research before naming companies to its coveted list. To make their selections, the magazine’s editors first asked more than 5,000 companies to respond to a questionnaire on their workplace practices. More than 300 agreed to take the extensive survey. When the editors identified 75 top contenders, they surveyed employees at each of those companies. A combination of the scores from the two surveys determined the top 25. All companies are profiled in Chicago’s October 2000 issue.
