At a gala celebration at The Four Seasons Restaurant, New York City, Chrysler Design Awards acknowledged the important role the designer plays in problem-solving and blending art and commerce. This year’s honorees are architect Will Bruder; landscape architect James Corner; product designer David M. Kelley; artisan/designer Ted Muehling; graphic designer, artist, and set designer Gary Panter; and graphic designer Paula Scher. Each received $10,000 in prize money and a kinetic sculpture trophy designed by past winner Chuck Hoberman. Daimler Chrysler launched the Design Awards in 1993 to recognize the problem-solving role that design and the designer play at the ever-variable nexus of art and commerce in contemporary life.
