October 31, 2001—Ciprus Limited, a marketing research and consulting firm, recently finished the fourth edition of its major study of the multibillion-dollar North American Contract, Residential, and Outdoor Upholstery Fabric Market. The study documents the changes that have occurred in the industry since 1997, when the last study was published. It includes more than 740 pages of data, trends, and a census of all upholstery fabric mills in the United States and Canada and over 177 leading contract, residential, and outdoor furniture producers. One major new feature in the report was the addition of leading outdoor furniture fabric producers and outdoor furniture manufacturers to document the outdoor furniture, cushion, umbrella, and awning fabric market.
Based on more than 700 telephone interviews, the study details the current production and consumption of upholstery fabric by specific fiber content, construction, and end uses—including contract and residential seating fabric, contract panel, drapery, bedspread, wallcovering, and cubicle fabrics.
