June 16, 2008—Coalesse, a new premium brand of furniture for the home and office was unveiled by Steelcase, a global leader in office furnishings. The collection offers a wide range of vibrant and artful expressions, from timeless, iconic designs to new takes on classic needs.
Coalesse brings together select products from three of Steelcase’s most renowned brands: Brayton International, Metro Furniture and Vecta, in addition to new collections from partners: Carl Hansen & Sn (Denmark), Walter Knoll AG & Co. (Germany), and Viccarbe (Spain). This gives consumers much more flexibility in terms of design and layout, by combining products from the different companies. Finishes and materials are all coordinated.
The new Coalesse live/work collection features more than 20 products, and complements Steelcase’s current portfolio by focusing on the increasingly growing similarities between work and life. Gone are the harsh lines and glaring surfaces that have long characterized the workplace; Coalesse has replaced them with softened, contoured shapes that represent the new sensibilities of the modern way we work.
The new collections will be available through exclusive Coalesse dealers and select retailers beginning July 2008. Highlights of the launch include:
Andoo tables and chairs: The Andoo family of tables and chairs is all about elegant proportions, materials and details. Designed by EOOS in Austria, Andoo is pure minimalism where fine details, such as joinery and materials, come together with engineered comfort.
Holy Day lounge and tables: Designed by Jean-Marie Massaud, Holy Day lounge and tables offer a new take on classic design in two distinctive pieces. A thin steel frame and saddle stitching enhance the elegant lines and showcase the designer’s attention to detail and use of quality materials. Frames are finished in trivalent chrome, which is an environmentally safer alternative to the traditional hexavalent chrome plating process. Tabletop finishings are offered in leather, veneer, and the new powder-coated colored glass palette by Laura Guido-Clark.
Ribbon tables: The charming geometry of curved flat steel in interplay with the delicate table tops lends these occasional tables their own special style. Designed by PearsonLloyd of London, Ribbon tables are suitable for both commercial and residential use. Ribbon comes in two heights and four diameters; tabletops are offered in saddle leather and glass.
Together bench: Austrian design team EOOS rediscovered the corner seat and gave it a personalized touch. Together takes its cue from everyday life, where tables are a meeting point and applies this concept to benches. Together is available as a banquet corner or in straight configurations, including a backless bench, and can be upholstered to order.
Davos chair and benches: The Davos collection is an expression of forms and volumes that effortlessly integrate into the surrounding environment. Designed by Jeffery Bernett for Viccarbe, Davos is composed of blocks that can be arranged in endless compositions. The chair features detailed stitching and a fully upholstered underside that is equally as beautiful as the top.
Carl Hansen and Son Collection:Each of the products in this collection is hand-crafted and custom-built by Carl Hansen & Sn in Denmark. Built to the exacting standards of the Hans J. Wegner Foundation, these modern classics add human warmth to any space.
The Coalesse collection was officially launched at the NeoCon World’s Trade Fair 2008 in Chicago from June 9-11, 2008. Coalesse will be available through exclusive dealers and select retailers beginning July 2008.
