July 28, 2003—Collins & Aikman Corporation has introduced AcT Fused Fiber, meeting the demand for innovative, lightweight flooring and dash acoustic product solutions. The latest in Collins & Aikman’s line of AcT Technologies, Fused Fiber extends the superior absorption capabilities of AcT Fiber by varying acoustic performance over the entire surface and depth of the floor or dash system, offering customers increased flexibility in controlling vehicle interior acoustics.
AcT Fused Fiber is a proprietary blend of engineered fibers, ‘custom tuned’ to meet the distinctive sound management requirements of individual vehicle programs. The entire system is optimally engineered for fiber density and loft across its surface through precise control of material amount, applied heat and final mold compression. The NVH performance of Fused Fiber is complemented by the following unique advantages that offer maximum flexibility and optimal system level engineering:
- Reduced weight of up to 70% when compared to traditional products and up to 30% compared to competitive lightweight products
- Controlled balance between sound absorption & sound transmission loss
- Variable thickness without stacking material layers
- Variable density control enabling mass where it is needed
- Versatility—Can be used with mass based systems as well as porous systems
- 3D Tuning—Spatially optimized floor or dash systems
Collins & Aikman’s Fused Fiber is now available in multiple blends including the 300 series blend, which utilizes recycled fibers and the 400 series blend, utilizing virgin fibers to provide enhanced performance and additional weight savings.
