October 28, 2005—Ten US companies and institutions were recognized for exemplary “combined heat and power” (CHP) projects by the US Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) and the US Department of Energy (DOE) October 26 in New York City at the sixth Annual National CHP Roadmap Workshop.
Of the 13 recognized projects, each meet EPA criteria for efficiency and fuel savings and make outstanding contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from energy generation. The 13 projects represent annual savings of over 2.2 million metric tons of carbon equivalent, which is the equivalent of removing the annual greenhouse gas emissions of 366,000 cars.
EPA’s CHP Partnership is a voluntary program that supports energy users, industry, state, and local governments, and other stakeholders to develop new projects with well-balanced energy, environmental, and economic benefits through the application of combined heat and power technologies.
