December 28, 2007—Even as President Bush was signing into law a new federal energy bill that will phase out most common types of incandescent light bulbs by 2014, ComEd customers collectively purchased nearly 1 million ENERGY STAR qualified Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs this fall as part of ComEd’s second annual CARE (Customers’ Affordable Reliable Energy) Discount CFL Bulb Program.
The discounted CFLs were available beginning Oct. 1 for as low as 99 cents each at nearly 330 participating retailers, says the company. The discount CFL program formally ends on Dec. 31.
The ComEd CARE Discount CFL Bulb Discount Program is the largest privately funded energy efficiency lighting promotion in the Midwest, says ComEd. Customers seeking to purchase some of the limited remaining inventory of discounted CFL bulbs at participating Do It Best Hardware and True Value Hardware stores should call ahead to verify availability. For an updated list of participating store locations and contact information, see the ComEd Web site.
Commonwealth Edison Company is a unit of Chicago-based Exelon Corporation, one of the nation’s largest electric utilities with approximately 5.4 million customers. ComEd provides service to approximately 3.8 million customers across Northern Illinois, or 70 percent of the state’s population.
