September 10, 2008—Commodore Builders is partnering with Leggat McCall Properties and Audrey O’Hagan Architects in an unprecedented industry move to streamline the construction process in a project dubbed “15 Days.”
The project involves the fit-out of a new 10,000-square-foot-office space for Leggat McCall, located at 10 Post Office Square in Boston. Commodore will build what would typically be a 12 week project, in a record 15 working days, using sustainable materials and construction practices, says the company. The work began Sept. 8.
The new space will be constructed to the LEED gold standard, building in future flexibility, eliminating materials that contribute to waste and using new technologies to reduce energy consumption. Raised access flooring, LED lighting, wireless switching, reusable/sustainable wall systems and underfloor air and power distribution will all contribute to the flexibility of reconfiguring the space for future use.
The team’s goal is to demonstrate that by squeezing out inefficiencies, planning ahead, and using innovative technologies, a 12-week construction schedule can be reduced to 15 days without sacrificing quality, cost or functionality and without working around the clock to get it done.
Commodore’s mission is to set a new standard of excellence for the delivery of construction management services to clients. For more on the company, see its Web site.
