Companies should do more to improve workplace, say finance directors

April 30, 2004—In a new survey of finance directors, 80% said that businesses should do more to improve the quality of life of their employees.

Research carried out by Reed Accountancy, in conjunction with Accountancy Age magazine, found that an overwhelming majority of FDs believe “a happy workforce makes for better productivity.”

High on the list of priorities were various forms of flexible working, which most FDs said contribute to better morale and performance, as well as greater commitment to the employer.

Just 14% of the FDs polled took the view that it was not the role of business to improve quality of life for employees.
