workplacelaw.net reported in March that discussions at the Facilities Management Legal Update Convention, which took place March 14-15 in Birmingham, England, focused on the financial burden of complying with the current UK workplace legislation, specifically the Disability Discrimination Act and the Climate Change Levy.
Convention attendees also discussed asbestos regulations, the Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) Code of Practice, and the new government focus on health and safety enforcement—in particular, the reform of the Construction (Design and Management) regulations and the emphasis on construction work in general.
The convention, which was organized by Asset Information Ltd., offered twenty-four workshops and seminars that covered six topics: disability and access regulations, health and safety law and practice, fire safety law and practice, FM contracts and outsourcing issues, legal issues in CCTV and security, and property and environmental law.
Key findings from the convention will be released in a written survey and published by workplacelaw.net later this year.
