September 24, 2001—CompuDyne Corp. has announced that its Norment Security Group subsidiary had received an approximately $19 million letter-of-intent to supply security and cell products and systems to a new prison project in Phoenix, Ariz.
The new high-rise corrections facility will have 1,100 cells using the CompuDyne’s MaxWall Modular Steel Jail Cell System, marking the first major installation of this Norment Security Group innovation.
Initial fabrication work is estimated to start in the fourth quarter of 2001, with an anticipated completion date of mid-2003.
The MaxWall Modular Jail Cell System was introduced last year and has major advantages over traditional concrete construction:
- Construction savings because the lighter weight of the cells reduces foundation requirements;
- Construction savings because the thinner walls result in a reduced footprint, or less space required per cell; and
- Labor savings from factory fabrication and integration of cell components and accessories.
