Comverge Technologies awarded first new California direct load control contract

Under a new contract, Comverge Technologies will provide one of California’s major investor-owned utilities with equipment that will enable an additional 5 to 10 megawatts of peak load reduction this summer.

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) recently mandated that each of the three major investor-owned utilities in California implement a two-year plan to reduce peak demand using direct load control of residential and commercial air conditioning systems. CPUC has said that direct load control is a “cost-effective” and “potentially vast, untapped source of interruptible electricity.”
