September 13, 2002—The Advanced Building Systems Integration Consortium (ABSIC) is a program established at Carnegie Mellon University to advance the North American building industry through research, development, and demonstrations designed to increase the quality of commercial and integrated building systems.
Established in 1988, the ABSIC is a university-industry-government partnership aimed at increasing the satisfaction, health, and productivity of occupants, and at enabling organizational change and technological adaptability while improving cost, energy, and environmental effectiveness.
One of ABSIC’s current projects is the 7000-sq. ft. Intelligent Workplace of the Center for Building Performance and Diagnostics (with performance monitoring and feedback), also known as the “office of the future.” It is a highly innovative laboratory with advanced products and advanced product integrations (systems) for educational and research purposes.
