CPSC, Stihl recall chain saw

January 23, 2006—The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced January 11 the voluntary recall of Stihl-brand MS 192 T Chain Saws. According to CPSC, these saws can leak fuel, posing a fire hazard. A connection in the ignition grounding system that can loosen and create a spark, posing a fire hazard, has also been identified. In addition, a problem with the saw’s clutch assembly springs—which can allow a spring to be projected from the saw housing—has been discovered.

Consumers are advised to stop using these chain saws immediately and return them to an authorized Stihl dealer for a free repair. For more information on “Working Safely with Chain Saws,” (.pdf file), visit the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Web site.
