CRRC enhances online cool roof products directory

December 6, 2006—The Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) recently upgraded its Rated Products Directory for cool roofing products from a static list in PDF format to a dynamic, searchable Web interface. With over 750 rated products, the new directory allows architects, roof specifiers, building owners, and other users to easily find a CRRC rated product to fit their needs, says the CRRC.

The new format allows users to search the directory by key parameters, including material type, manufacturing company, radiative properties, and slope to more easily identify products meeting their specifications, says the CRRC. Additionally, the results page allows users to sort their search results by any of the key parameters by clicking on the column headings.

The upgrade coincided with the launch of the Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) Residential Cool Roof Rebate program. In addition, the California Energy Commission (CEC) is considering adding a cool roof prescription to its Title 24 update, for residential roofs and non-residential steep-slope roofs.

The CRRC says these efforts are part of a national trend recognizing the importance of cool roofing as an energy-saving measure. Voluntary green building rating systems like the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and the Green Building Initiative’s Green Globes both give credit for cool roofs and recognize CRRC ratings.

The Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) is an independent organization that has established a system for providing building code bodies, energy service providers, architects and specifiers, and property owners and community planners with accurate radiative property data on roof surfaces that may improve the energy efficiency of buildings while positively impacting the environment.
