October 20, 2006—D.C. Taylor Co., a leading roofing contractor based in Cedar Rapids, IA, is now using ThinkShare’s Field Data Manager (FDM) to report critical job site data to the home office.
D.C. Taylor roofing and service foremen use the FDM product line to enter payroll and productivity information and transmit it to the central office for review and processing. Office staff and executives have access to up-to-date costing information and job progress reports that were previously unavailable using their accounting system alone.

The primary tool in the hands of the foremen is the FDM-TME (Time, Materials & Equipment), based on an iPAQ 2215 Pocket PC. Using a touchscreen interface, foremen can accomplish most of their entry tasks by selecting from lists of data (such as job codes, employee names, equipment numbers) drawn directly from the most accurate source: D.C. Taylor Co.’s Viewpoint accounting system itself.
Daily payroll and production data is synchronized with the home office, and the device also receives updated information, notes and messages. New jobs entered by foremen in the morning are available for labor allocation in the afternoon. The FDM-TME is also used to track daily site conditions and any incidents that occur.
