Day & Zimmermann wins rare SAFETY certification from DHS

April 23, 2007—Day & Zimmermann Security Services, a leading provider of managed security services, has received SAFETY (Support Anti-terrorism by Fostering Effective Technology) Act Certification and Designation from the US Department of Homeland Security, the company has announced.

This certification grants the company, its customers, and subcontractors significant lawsuit protection and reduced liability for claims rising out of terrorism acts involving their security and protective force operations. Of the nearly 14,000 security firms nationwide, less than 10 have SAFETY Act Certification and Designation, says Day & Zimmermann.

The certification follows the Department of Homeland Security’s rigorous, year-long review of Day & Zimmermann’s operating procedures and service standards. The company developed an extensive business case describing its security service capabilities, and how they can be used to prevent terrorism. Day & Zimmermann submitted the case to the DHS, who evaluated it, and determined the company was eligible for SAFETY Act Designation or Certification.

Congress enacted the SAFETY Act as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the concern that companies would be discouraged from continuing to develop anti-terrorism technology and services due to the significant liability exposure if a future act of terrorism were to occur. The legislation encourages continued development and deployment of anti-terrorism equipment and services by providing risk protection and litigation management assistance to providers of the most qualified anti-terrorism solutions.

Day & Zimmermann Security Services is the ninth largest security company in the US, with 25 offices and 3,800 employees. The company provides managed services, including armed and unarmed security officers for industrial and commercial facilities, public utilities, and government agencies.
