Delphi named one of Americas safest companies by national magazine

October 9, 2002—Delphi Corp. has recently been named one of “America’s Safety Companies” by Occupational Hazards magazine. In addition, the company recently earned third place in the National Safety Council’s “Outstanding Achievements in Safety & Productivity” competition.

Delphi is featured in this month’s Occupational Hazards magazine, which annually pays tribute to the country’s 20 top safety companies. According to the editor, Sandy Smith, Delphi was chosen for its efforts to provide a safe, healthy workplace for employees. The distinction was based on Delphi’s health and safety philosophy and programming.

In addition, Delphi’s case study, “Culture Change: Creating a Culture that Works,” recently earned the National Safety Council (NSC) award. The competitive awards, led by the NSC’s Research & Statistical Services Group, honor strategic intervention efforts that have shown significant impact in safety performance as well as productivity. Delphi’s study demonstrated the collaboration between Delphi’s management and union partners to create a culture change within the organization to position health and safety as the company’s overriding priority.

Delphi’s culture change process has led to improved safety and quality in Delphi facilities. Since 1999, Delphi has seen a 72 percent improvement in quality (based on parts per million nonconformities) and a 63 percent improvement in lost workday cases.
