April 11, 2003—DensShields Tile Guard from G-P Gypsum protects wet and high humidity areas with its unique heat-cured acrylic coating that provides a built-in moisture barrier.
The acrylic tile-side coating on DensShield tile backer stops moisture from migrating where damage can result and protects the integrity of the tile installation. Unlike cement board, which requires the purchase and installation of a separate moisture barrier to allow intruding water to escape, DensShields moisture barrier is built-in and stops moisture at the surface of the board. The result is reduced installation time and cost savings for the contractor.
A patented, premium performance tile substrate produced by G-P Gypsum since 1988, DensShield utilizes embedded glass mats on the front and back and a treated, water resistant core to provide moisture resistance.
DensShield is a light board, requiring no special tools for installation. DensShield finishes smooth and clean with the use of a simple utility knife, preventing ragged edges or scratched fixtures and, in turn, saving in replacement cost. DensShield fastens well with screws or nails, even close to edges. With the same thickness of conventional wallboard, it allows a smooth transition to other walls.
DensShield comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty on every tile installation applied over it. If a tile installation properly applied over DensShield using tile industry standards ever fails, Georgia-Pacific will reimburse the owner for the cost of repair or replacement not only of the DensShield panels, but also the cost to repair the entire tile assembly.
