DIRTT wins US government Green Contractor award

October 25, 2006—Calgary manufacturer DIRTT Environmental Solutions is the 2006 recipient of the Excellence in Partnership Green Contractor Award. The award is presented by the Coalition of US Government Procurement and the US General Services Administration.

DIRTT, which stands for Doing It Right This Time, manufactures Agile Architectural Solutions for offices and workspaces movable walls, access floors and modular power solutions.

The Industry Green Contractor Award is presented to the contractor who made the best overall commitment to the environment by either offering environmentally friendly products and services, or adhering to environmentally sound manufacturing and/or operating procedures.

DIRTT will be presented the award at a banquet November 13, 2006, at the Ritz-Carlton, Pentagon City in Arlington, VA.

According to DIRTT, Modular interior construction is an environmentally friendly choice. By manufacturing the architectural elements, rather than building them from raw materials on-site, materials and transportation pollution are reduced (fewer trades travel to and from the jobsite for a shorter period of time).

Plus there is opportunity to reduce real estate needs and therefore energy needs, because extra office space doesn’t have to be leased or purchased to hedge for uncertainty in business needs.

Reusable products are a stronger environmental tool than recyclable or recycled products that still require demolition, removal and replacement, says the company.
