February 18, 2008—Teknion Corporation announced that District—a new furniture system that responds to trends toward smaller spaces, more collaboration and teamwork, and new generation of workers—has been honored with a Good Design Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.
“This latest honor for District brings the total number of awards that Teknion received in this international Good Design competition to three,” said David Feldberg, Teknion President and CEO. “Whereas our other award-winning products—the Marketplace worktable and Metrix task chair—were largely the work of outside designers, District is the culmination of Teknion’s own very talented design team. The Good Design Awards celebrate the most innovative designs from around the world, and Teknion is thrilled to be the recipient of these prized awards.”
District responds to a new generation of architecture and employees, combining elements of classic furniture with the functionality of systems, according to Teknion.
In November 2007, District was honored in three international design competitions in three cities in three nights. It was selected as top product in the Furniture: Contract/Systems category in Interior Design’s second annual Best of Year Awards competition. District earned Silver in the annual Design Exchange Awards competition in Toronto, and placed second in the FX International Interior Design Awards in London with a Highly Commended rating. In September of 2007, District received Gold in the annual IIDEX/NeoCon Canada Innovation Awards competition held in Toronto.
The Good Design Awards give international recognition to the world’s most prominent designers and manufacturers for advancing new, visionary, and innovative product concepts, invention and originality, and for stretching the envelope beyond what is considered basic product and consumer design.
In 2007, the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design received a record number of submissions from six continents in the annual products and graphics competition. Judging took place in New York last November by an international jury of design professionals, experts, and cultural leaders.
