July 6, 2005—Anyone who has recently downloaded the Department of Energys Pumping System Assessment Tool 2004 (PSAT), is being urged by the DOE to visit the Industrial Technologies Program’s (ITP) BestPractices Web site to download an update that corrects a technical error discovered in the valve energy tool portion of PSAT 2004.
PSAT 2004, released on February 18, 2005, is one in the powerful suite of software tools developed by ITP to help plant operators uncover opportunities for improved system performance. It uses readily available or easily obtained data to provide a simple and quick means to determine system efficiency and possible alternatives for improvement.
The valve tool is an enhancement developed for PSAT 2004 that allows you to select from four combinations of data, using a control called the “Available Data Selector.”
The error involved the calculation of frictional power losses (and as a result, the electrical power and annual cost of friction calculations) when the second of the four methods, Flow rate from delta-P, Cv, was specified. No other calculations were affected.
If you are an existing PSAT 2004 user and have downloaded PSAT 2004 as of February 18, 2005, please choose one of two options for obtaining the most up-to-date version of the valve tool: download and reinstall the full version of PSAT 2004, or download the updated valve tool only and follow installation instructions.
