December 22, 2006—The US Department of Energy (DOE) has issued the final rule for new test procedures and definitions to determine the energy efficiency of residential appliances and commercial equipment. The rule, which will take effect on January 8, 2007, establishes test procedures and definitions for a variety of items as required by the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct).
The commercial equipment covered includes: ASHRAE products, clothes washers, distribution transformers, electric motors, furnaces and boilers, high intensity discharge lamps, refrigerated beverage vending machines, refrigeration equipment, small electric motors, unitary air conditioners and heat pumps, and water heaters.
