November 1, 2002—The US Department of Energy is now offering its 2002 Building Energy Databook in electronic format online. It is available in both Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Excel versions.
The Databook, which is developed by DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, offers current, comprehensive data about the energy consumption of commercial and residential buildings. For example, commercial buildings use about one-third of all electricity in the United States. Other reports include data on commercial HVAC equipment lifetimes, the value of building improvements, nonresidential window use, and energy use statistics for schools, hospitals, and office buildings.
