December 12, 2001—The US Department of Energy’s “green tag” program, which allows energy consumers to buy renewable energy from their local facilities at an extra cost, now lists retail and wholesale green power marketers on its Web site. The list covers those states that have opened their markets to energy competition, including California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. A number of other states, such as Montana, Illinois, Delaware, Arizona, and Michigan, are phasing in competition, allowing some customers to choose their electricity supplier.
Some of the companies listed include Exelon Power Team, Green Mountain Energy Company, PECO Energy Company, Reliant Energy, Bonneville Power Administration, PacifiCorp, PG&E Corporation, Sun Power Electric, and Waverly Light and Power. For a complete list, visit DOE’s Web site.
