February 25, 2005—The pumping system assessment tool (PSAT) released by the Department of Energy’s Industrial Technologies Program can improve pumping system efficiency at industrial plants, saving time and energy, according to DOE.
The enhanced PSAT 2004 provides a simple and quick means to determine system efficiency and possible alternatives for improvement, DOE says. The tool’s prescreening filter can identify areas that are likely to offer the greatest savings.
The tool can: examine the economic and energy impacts of different operating scenarios; provide data for trending system performance; clarify impacts of operational changes on demand charges; and identify degraded or poorly performing pumps.
