“DOJ, AIA Meet to Address ADA Compliance”

In a brainstorming session American Institute of Architects’ Government Affairs Advisory Committee (GAAC), high-level officials from the Department of Justice (http://www.doj.gov) looked for means to clarify ADA compliance and discussed ways on how AIA and DOJ can work together to reach a streamlining of ADA compliance. July 2000 marks the 10th anniversary of ADA.

John Anderson, FAIA, the AIA first vice president and chair of the GAAC, stressed that “architects, as creative and innovative people, can guide the DOJ in creating efficient programs to inform architects of the standards for compliance.” The AIA is working diligently to effect a higher standard of clarity and certainty so that architects can comply with the law.
