April 7, 2007—The US Dept. of Justice (DOJ) has submitted a notice to update its ADA standards (ADAAG) for internal review by the Administration.
The notice will be followed by publication of the notice for public review in April, which will kick off a 60-day public comment period ending in June. The updates to the standards follow recommended changes from the US Access Board and would apply to construction and alteration of all facilities covered by the ADA except transportation facilities.
The final notice to complete action from DOJ, which will include an effective date for the updated standards, is not expected until this fall at the earliest, and the existing standards will remain in effect until that time.
More information is available through the Access Board Web site.
