Loewen Windows has announced the introduction of the Double Access Window. This new metal clad wood window complements Loewen’s Access Window introduced in 1999. It features the same 180-degree, full rotation European hinge design as the Access Window but, with a two window sash instead of one, the look is more of a traditional double hung window.
Bill Isaak, vice president of sales for Loewen Windows, described the advantages and benefits of this unique new window. “Like Loewen’s Access Window, the Double Access Window is ideally suited to situations where exterior access is restricted, such as multiple story homes, commercial applications, schools and healthcare facilities. This is because each sash in a Loewen Double Access can rotate a full 180 degrees outside of the window frame, which allows cleaning the exterior sash to be completed from inside the room.”
Isaak continued, “Two major features of the Loewen Double Access Window are its superior performance and the European operating hardware made by Spilka. The unique design and strength of the Spilka hinging system actually balances both window sash, making the Double Access Window well suited to applications that require large operating windows. Each Loewen Double Access Window comes equipped as standard with a custodial lock that secures both sides of the upper window sash to the frame using espagnolettes. Plus, the lower window sash is fitted with a roto-gear operator (push bar operator optional), complete with two sash locks. No frame mullion (horizontal center bar) between the sash is necessary. The combination of this locking system and premium foam filled primary weatherstrip creates a highly effective seal. In fact, during in-house testing that simulated A440 Testing Standard, the Double Access Window performed so well, it met the Air Infiltration Test criteria for fixed (non-operating) windows.”
